MEET THE RIVER CITY COACHES!
Mike Black | Minnesota State University, MCLA D1 | Founder and Director of River City Lacrosse.
Having played, graduated and returned to coach for St. Charles High School’s he saw the need to develop a competitive and well organized feeder program for the area.
His playing experience post high school includes MCLA DI 1st team all-conference and 3-year starter at Minnesota State University.
Upon graduating, Mike played for the post collegiate men’s clubs Lincoln Park and Windy City and continues to play on various teams and tournaments throughout the year.
Angelo Carbonara | Elmhurst College, NCAA DIII | Director of Program Operations
Carbonara is a St. Charles native and graduate of Marmion Academy. After earning 3 varsity letters, All Conference awards and nominated as 2 year captain, Angelo went on to NCAA DIII Elmhurst College. Carbonara was a starting attackman and served as captain as well as leadership council for the Blue Jays.
As a post grad, Angelo was an Assistant Varsity coach for Nequa Valley High School before he returned to his alma mater where he started as the JV Head coach and then Varsity Assistant for Marmion Academy.
We are thrilled to have Angelo join the River City team. He will be a lead instructor for many RCL programs starting this indoor season!
Charlie Uchill | Army, NCAA D1 | Director of Coaching River City Lacrosse
Graduate of the United States Military Academy. While at West Point, Charlie played goalie and also was on the coaching staff of the nationally ranked NCAA DI Army Lacrosse team. Following graduation, he went on to serve as an officer in the elite 75th Ranger Regiment. He earned the coveted Ranger tab, as well as Airborne, Air Assault, and Jumpmaster badges. He completed over 40 parachute jumps worldwide. He continued to play in competitive men’s club lacrosse leagues in Hawaii, Washington, and Illinois. Upon moving to Illinois, Coach Uchill officiated high school, club and NCAA lacrosse games. He has been working with River City lacrosse since 2014.
Dave Sheble | Rochester Institute of Technology, NCAA DIII
He attended Westminster High school in Westminster Maryland where he was leading scorer his senior year. He then played NCAA DII/III at RIT (1974-1978). His senior year, he was Co-captain and second leading scorer. From 1978-1990, he played for the Chicago Lacrosse Club winning 4 MCLA titles and playing in 6 Midwest All-Star games. 1991-1992 he was head Coach for Chicago Lacrosse Club with 23-1 record and 2 MCLA titles. In 1991, his team’s 12-0 campaign was 1 of only 4 undefeated seasons since 1965. He played in the Vail Lacrosse Tournament 8 times winning the 1996 Masters Championship. He also won the Lake Placid Summit Invitation tournament 2 times. He played in 3 Lacrosse World Championships; 1994 in Manchester, England (Masters World Championships), 1998 in Baltimore, Maryland, and 2006 in London, Ontario (Centurial World Champions). He’s been a coach at River City Lacrosse for 8 years and enjoys paying it forward by teaching the game to athletes interested in becoming the best player they can be. He’s proud of the coaches at River City all with extensive playing and coaching experience so we can not only tell players how to improve but show them the correct way to do things. He is a co-founder and race director for Fox Valley Marathon and Half Marathon, BQ.2 Marathon, and Naperville Half Marathon.
Nia Stompanato | Loras College, NCAA DIII
Nia is a St. Charles native and graduate of Saint Francis College Preparatory High School. After playing Varsity lacrosse at Saint Francis, Nia went on to play NCAA DIII at Loras College in Iowa. The first 2 years of college, Nia started every game in the low defensive position. Slowly she began starting her transition to midfield. By the end of junior year she began taking the draw as high defense, and eventually pursued starting at the center position. She served as captain as well as achieved 4 year All-Academic Award through the MWWLC.
Throughout high school Nia helped River City seasonally and decided to become a coach for the girls travel team after graduating college.
